Preserving the Past, Empowering the Future: connecting communities and collections in Bangladesh
About
A free exhibition at the Oriental Museum showcasing a heritage protection partnership in Bangladesh, including the co-produced display A History of Bangladesh in 25 Objects.
This display presents the outcomes of a Cultural Protection Fund partnership between Durham University's UNESCO Chair team, the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, the Varendra Research Museum and the University of Rajshahi. It documents a training programme that strengthened the Bangladeshi museum's capacity in collections care, cataloguing, storytelling and disaster risk management, alongside community engagement work. The display also includes the co-produced exhibition A History of Bangladesh in 25 Objects, tracing the region's story from prehistory to the present through themes of empire, religious transitions and social transformation.
