Joyeux Noel (2005)

On Christmas Eve 1914, French, Scottish and German soldiers lay down their arms in the trenches for an extraordinary truce amid the carnage of the First World War.

Christian Carion's drama draws on a remarkable episode from the First World War, when opposing troops on the Western Front paused their fighting to mark Christmas together in no man's land. Blending war, history and romance, the film follows soldiers and officers from French, Scottish and German ranks whose shared humanity briefly outweighs the conflict around them. The cast includes Diane Kruger, Benno Fürmann, Guillaume Canet and Daniel Brühl.
