Lecture and Supper Series – An Overview of Coastal Command
About
An evening lecture and hot supper at the IBCC tracing the history of RAF Coastal Command from its First World War origins to the present day.
Sqn Ldr (Ret) Bob Hall, Ceremonial & Functions Member of the Coastal Command Association, gives a talk on the protection of Britain's seaborne trade, covering the Royal Navy's wartime development of that role, the RAF's takeover after 1918, the formation of Coastal Command in 1936 and its early problems, its wartime subordinate formations, and the command's post-war changes and present-day roles. The talk excludes inter-service rivalries and political oversight during World War Two, which will be covered by Simon Kemp in a later talk. The evening begins with a hot supper in The Hub Café at 18:30.
