Peapods and Gillyflowers: Tudor Textiles
About
An exhibition of rare Tudor and Stuart embroideries and garments from the Lord Middleton Collection, displayed at Wollaton Hall.
Wollaton Hall displays fourteen items from the Lord Middleton Collection, made largely between 1580 and 1650, including a rare padded doublet or 'jack' (1580–1590). The embroideries were selected for their natural forms — flowers, herbs, vegetables, insects and animals — reflecting the period's fascination with gardens and newly introduced species such as peas, artichokes, tulips and irises. The exhibition forms part of the Wollaton 100 programme celebrating the centenary of the Natural History Museum at the Hall. It is available on weekends, school holidays and bank holidays.
