About

Naoíse Mac Sweeney traces how retellings of the Trojan War have shaped ideas of civilisation and considers the place of Anatolia and Türkiye in that history. Professor Yaprak Gürsoy chairs.

The BATAS John Martin Annual Lecture examines the political meanings attached to the Trojan story, from war and conquest to Ottoman diplomacy and Türkiye’s place in a changing international order. Archaeologist and historian Naoíse Mac Sweeney speaks, and Professor Yaprak Gürsoy chairs. An event reception follows.
