The Saltire Society 90th Anniversary Concert
About
The Saltire Society marks its 90th anniversary with a concert featuring the world premiere of Gemma McGregor's Ness of Brodgar-inspired composition alongside Clarsach, fiddle and traditional song.
This anniversary concert, hosted by the Saltire Society Scotland, opens with the world premiere of Gemma McGregor's To See Oursels commission, inspired by the Ness of Brodgar in Orkney. The piece uses replicas of ancient musical instruments and draws on research into Orcadian and Neolithic music, performed by McGregor with a Glasgow-based string quartet. The programme also includes traditional and contemporary Clarsach music from Elinor Evans and Stephanie Humphreys, Scottish trad tunes from fiddler Ally Douglas, and traditional Scottish songs, including Burns pieces, from mezzo soprano Joyce Byrne.
