About
Dunedin Consort performs Bach's Matthew Passion with John Butt and soloists to mark 300 years since the work's first performance.
Dunedin Consort marks the 300th anniversary of Bach's Matthew Passion, first performed on Good Friday 1727, with a performance of the work BWV 244. Directed from the harpsichord by John Butt, the performance features eight singers and two orchestras narrating and reflecting on the last days of Jesus' life, with a thread of human and divine love running through the drama of betrayal, trial, judgement and crucifixion. The cast includes Anna Dennis (soprano), James Hall (countertenor), Nicholas Mulroy (Evangelist), Malachy Frame (Christus) and the RSNO youth chorus.
