The Woodentops

The Woodentops, the Northampton band formed in the early 1980s, play a live show at The Horn in St Albans.

The Woodentops rose from the early 1980s Northampton scene, blending punk DIY ideals with stripped-down pop before signing to Rough Trade and releasing their acclaimed 1986 debut album Giant. Their sound later grew tougher, incorporating guitars and electronics influenced by Rolo McGinty's interest in dance music, as captured on the 1987 live recording Hypno Beat Live. After disbanding in 1992, the band reformed in 2006 and returned in 2014 with their first new album in over 25 years, Granular Tales. The gig is open to ages 14 and over, with under-18s accompanied by a guardian.
