Baletky
About
Miřenka Čechová performs Baletky, a dance-theatre piece blending movement, theatre and personal testimony about elite ballet training.
Baletky is a dance-theatre performance by dancer and director Miřenka Čechová, based on her award-winning autobiographical novel. Partly a memoir and partly a reckoning with the past, it explores the world of elite ballet conservatoires and the fevered atmosphere of the 1990s, following young girls' often cruel pursuit of the ballet dream. Combining movement, theatre and personal narrative, the piece exposes the physical demands and psychological cost of artistic training, addressing a toxic system while searching for identity, resilience and catharsis. The performance will be in English and is presented by Spitfire Company as part of the Czechoslovak New Wave season and the 30th Made in Prague festival.
