Handel's Dixit Dominus

A Baroque choral concert pairing Handel's Dixit Dominus with Purcell's Rejoice in the Lord Alway and Ye Tuneful Muses.

This concert programme centres on Handel's Dixit Dominus, composed in Rome in 1707 when the composer was 22, blending Italian energy and theatricality with spiritual intensity. It is paired with Purcell's verse anthem Rejoice in the Lord Alway and his 1686 ode Ye Tuneful Muses, both rich in word painting. Together the works move between grandeur and intimacy, celebration and contemplation, showcasing the variety and emotional depth of Baroque choral music.
