About

A free exhibition at The Stove Café of trade union-style banners made by communities along the River Nith as part of the Tributaries project.

This display shares the outcomes of Tributaries, an outreach project for Dumfries's annual Nithraid river festival, in which communities, artists and scientists explored the River Nith and its tributaries through moth trapping, bat walks, water sampling, birdwatching and species recording. Participants then joined textile artist Elizabeth Stephenson in creative workshops to design and make traditional trade union-style banners reflecting their communities' relationships with the river. The banners, which celebrate solidarity between human and more-than-human communities, joined the Salty Coo procession at this year's Nithraid in August.
