Querelle (1982)

A French sailor arrives in Brest and becomes entangled in a brothel's dangerous games of dice, desire and rivalry, deliberately losing to his lover's husband.

Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 1982 drama blends romance, crime and eroticism in a stylised tale of a French sailor drawn into the shadowy world of a Brest brothel. There, dice games with the madam's husband determine who shares whose bed, and Querelle's deliberate losses set desire and danger in motion. The film stars Brad Davis, with Franco Nero and Jeanne Moreau among the supporting cast.
