About
Clockmaker Mark Crangle gives a free AHS lecture on the history of the floral clock, from Edinburgh and Blackpool origins to surviving examples worldwide.
Mark Crangle of the Cumbria Clock Company traces the story of the floral clock, a horticultural and horological curiosity that began as a folly in places like Edinburgh and Blackpool and became a beloved UK holiday institution. He will cover its rise, heyday and decline, noting clocks that have been removed as well as surviving examples around the world. The lecture runs 6.15–7.15pm followed by a Q&A until 7.30pm and a drinks reception; doors open at 5.45pm with tea and coffee.
