About
Matthew Hilton uses photographs of the Calder Valley to examine histories of small towns after 1945, with a response from Aditya Chakrabortty.
The lecture asks how visual sources can reveal inclusive histories of belonging beyond accounts of industrial decline. It considers well-known photographers alongside Alice Longstaff’s local work. The Raphael Samuel History Centre hosts this public lecture at Queen Mary’s Arts Two Lecture Theatre, followed by discussion.
