A Royal Opera House guided tour explores LGBTQ+ figures and histories in the company’s performing arts.
The tour traces LGBTQ+ people in the Royal Ballet and Opera’s history and the ways performance has tested gender expectations, including ballet roles performed in drag and operatic trouser roles. It includes stories connected with Covent Garden, such as Rudolph Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn. The visit takes approximately 75 minutes, is recommended for ages 12 and over, and may take different routes depending on which spaces are available in the working theatre.
