Preaching Matters Course

A preaching training evening on engaging sermons, part of a six-session course over 12 months at St Andrew's Community Church.

Session 2 of the Preaching Matters Course, organised by Shawn Swinney at Holy Trinity Combe Down, focuses on 'Attention Span and the Preacher' — how to make sermons engaging, craft strong introductions and conclusions, and reach people at different levels of discipleship. The evening runs from 7.45pm for tea, with sessions from 8pm to 9.30pm comprising three short talks of 10–15 minutes, group processing and a practical component. The wider course runs six evenings over 12 months and welcomes both new and experienced preachers, with a variety of churches represented.
