About

A free lunchtime talk by Philip Magrath on how football, and Portsmouth's game in particular, survived the FA's 1915 ban on professionalism during the Great War.

This talk examines the pressure on football to be abandoned during the Great War, which led the FA to ban professionalism in 1915. Philip Magrath asks whether the game actually disappeared, looking at what happened to Pompey's football during the conflict. It is part of a series of afternoon talks at Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery, running from 12:30 to 13:30.
