A Streetcar Named Desire

Blanche DuBois arrives at her sister’s New Orleans home, unsettling the tense household Stella shares with Stanley.

Elia Kazan’s adaptation centres on Blanche’s arrival in the French Quarter and the strain her presence brings to Stella and Stanley’s already unstable marriage. The film’s confined domestic setting sharpens its portrait of desire, power and emotional conflict.
