About

An exhibition of photography by Jo Metson Scott and poetry by Sheldon Chadwick exploring the lives and traditions of Britain's travelling Showmen community.

This temporary exhibition at Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery offers a behind-the-scenes look at the travelling Showmen community behind Nottingham's historic Goose Fair. It presents the results of a ten-year project by photographer Jo Metson Scott and poet Sheldon Chadwick, a seventh-generation Showman, combining photography, poetry and personal stories. The exhibition celebrates the community's cultural heritage, skills and family-centred way of life, while also addressing prejudice and their contribution to British fairground culture. It runs as Nottingham prepares to welcome the return of Goose Fair.
