About

Forensic psychiatrist Dr Gwen Adshead gives a free hybrid lecture on trauma, memory and violence, with discussion and questions.

Dr Gwen Adshead, forensic psychiatrist, psychotherapist and author of Unspeakable: Stories of Survival and Recovery from Trauma (Faber, 2026), discusses trauma and exposure to traumatic events as a complex human experience. Her talk explores the relationship between trauma and memory, how trauma shapes the stories we tell about ourselves, and the link between trauma and violence. The 90-minute event includes ample time for discussion and questions, is open to all, and can be attended in person or online; breakout rooms are available given the potentially sensitive themes.
