About

Kattie Kincaid explores the Shakespearean garden in Platt Fields Park and the largely forgotten story of botanist, scholar and suffragist Rosa Grindon, whose civic campaign inspired the garden and its educational vision.

The talk traces Rosa Grindon’s role in proposing a Shakespeare garden for Manchester’s 1916 tercentenary and the later creation of the Platt Fields garden in 1922. It connects the garden’s survival and restoration to public education, municipal parks and civic culture.
