The Art of Pakhawaj
About
An intimate workshop and performance introducing the pakhawaj drum's history, repertoire and rhythms, with a solo presentation accompanied by santoor.
Pakhawaj artist Nikhil Ghorpadkar leads a workshop and performance exploring the instrument's place in the Dhrupad-Dhamar tradition and its rhythmic links with Kathak and tabla. The session combines conversation, demonstration and participation, with compositions and padhant for participants to learn, followed by a short pakhawaj solo accompanied by Kaviraj Singh on santoor and a Q&A. Aimed at Kathak dancers, tabla and music students, and anyone interested in Indian classical music, it is limited to 20 places and runs 6–7.30pm.
