About
Cellist Hugh Mackay gives a St Andrews debut solo recital of Britten and Kodály, joined by student cellists for music by Pärt and Popper.
Young Scottish cellist Hugh Mackay, who has appeared at Wigmore Hall, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and the Palace of Versailles, makes his St Andrews debut in a solo recital marking the 50th anniversary of Benjamin Britten's passing. The programme pairs Britten's first suite for solo cello with Kodály's rarely heard Sonata for solo cello op. 8. Mackay is then joined by the Music Centre's most talented student cellists for music by Arvo Pärt and Popper's Polonaise de Concert for Eight Cellos.
