Amina Khayyam Dance: Bird

Amina Khayyam Dance Company performs BIRD, a Kathak dance work exploring women escaping domestic abuse, with live music.

BIRD is the stage sequel to Amina Khayyam Dance Company's acclaimed dance film 'Catch The Bird Who Won't Fly'. The piece opens with a silent scream evoking the experiences of domestic violence survivors, exploring the uncertainty and courage involved in leaving an abusive situation and rebuilding a life. It grew from a workshop with a women's community group and is performed in high-energy Kathak to a specially commissioned live music score, presented as part of THIS IS DANCE.
