Edward Gardner conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra in a one-off semi-staged performance of George Benjamin and Martin Crimp's opera Lessons in Love and Violence, sung in English with surtitles. Inspired by the life of King Edward II, the 90-minute work (performed without interval) exposes the raw emotions of four characters locked in a deadly embrace of power and sex. The cast includes Nathaniel Sullivan as the King, Georgia Jarman as Isabel, Toby Spence as Mortimer and John Brancy as Gaveston/Stranger, with Dan Ayling directing.
