About

Antonia Gatward Cevilizi uses Italian paintings to trace the Nativity narrative, with additional references to Medici patronage, Siena Cathedral and Caravaggio.

Using Italian artworks, the lecture follows the Christmas story from the Annunciation to the Flight into Egypt. Its examples also connect to Medici devotion to the Magi, Siena Cathedral’s floor and a stolen Caravaggio.
