The Anonymous Lover
About
Welsh National Opera stages Joseph Bologne's rarely performed romantic comedy opera The Anonymous Lover, sung in French with English surtitles.
Welsh National Opera presents The Anonymous Lover, the only surviving opera by French composer Joseph Bologne (Le Chevalier de Saint-George). The romantic comedy follows Léontine, a wealthy widow who has sworn off love, as mysterious letters and gifts from a secret admirer — her friend Valcour, hiding his identity for fear of rejection — begin to soften her resolve. The new staging places the orchestra on stage in a baroque-inspired world, with new text by Tife Kusoro, and is sung in French with English surtitles. Running time is approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes including an interval.
