About

A guided 2.5-hour walk around Pondhead Inclosure exploring its history, coppice restoration and traditional charcoal making.

This guided walk, part of the New Forest Walking Festival 2026, begins at Parc Pale Car Park with a short walk to Pondhead Inclosure. Participants stroll through a historic New Forest woodland while learning about its past, biodiversity and traditional coppice management, as well as charcoal production and the centuries-old role of New Forest charcoal makers. The walk is led by the award-winning Pondhead Conservation Trust, which is currently restoring the woodland, and lasts around 2.5 hours.
