The Moon Will Not Burn Us: Women and the Fight for Guinea-Bissau's Independence
About
An evening conversation with writer Ricci Shryock and journalist Jamila Pereira about the women who fought for Guinea-Bissau's independence.
Writer and photographer Ricci Shryock discusses her book The Moon Will Not Burn Us with Bissau-Guinean writer and journalist Jamila Pereira. The book draws on nearly two decades of reporting and first-hand testimony to tell the stories of women like Joana Gomes, who served as fighters, organisers, nurses and political leaders in Guinea-Bissau's liberation war against Portuguese colonial rule. The conversation will explore the women behind the independence movement, preserving their stories and how history remembers them.
