About
Gavin Plumley considers how Bruegel’s seasonal paintings put landscape and people’s relation to the environment at the centre.
Gavin Plumley explores Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s 1565 seasonal painting series, including The Return of the Herd, Hunters in the Snow and The Gloomy Day. The lecture considers how Bruegel shifted landscape from backdrop to subject and how people belong within a changing natural world. It begins at 11:00 in the Main Hall, with refreshments beforehand.
