Discourse: How to Get a Molecule to Obey You (Theatre)
About
Chemist Dame Ijeoma Uchegbu gives a Royal Institution Discourse on how chemistry and nanotechnology shape the medicines we take.
In this Friday Evening Discourse at the Royal Institution, chemist Dame Ijeoma Uchegbu explores how chemical compounds underpin everything we see, touch and smell, with a focus on medicines. She explains the costly, risky process of drug development — with over 5,000 compounds typically tested before one usable drug emerges — and how nanotechnology helps deliver drugs to diseased parts of the body while sparing healthy tissue. The talk runs about 1 hour 25 minutes, begins promptly at 7.30pm with doors at 6.45pm, and is followed by a brief question-and-answer period. Copies of Uchegbu's book 'Chain Reaction' will be available to purchase after the talk.
