We Were There!
About
An afternoon of short films and conversation celebrating the lives of older Black LGBTQ+ people, with rum punch and patties.
Melanin Vybz and Project Harvey present We Were There!, a Black History Month celebration at Union Chapel's Sunday School hall. The afternoon screens two Melanin Vybz short films — Ebony - I Remember, about a Black drag performer from an earlier generation of London's LGBTQ+ scene, and Harvey - aka Octavia Edenbridge, exploring identity, ageing and visibility. After the films, four older Black LGBTQ+ men and women join a facilitated conversation using six questions as starting points, with the audience invited to listen or share their own experiences. Jeffrey Pickering's rum punch and patties accompany the event, which runs 1pm to 4:30pm and is for ages 18 and over.
