About

An exhibition on the first floor of the House exploring the Jekyll–Lutyens partnership that created Hestercombe's Grade I listed Formal Garden.

This exhibition tells the story of the collaboration between horticulturist Gertrude Jekyll and architect Edwin Lutyens, who between 1904 and 1908 transformed the south-facing slope at Hestercombe into terraces, rills, walls, pergolas and richly planted borders. Their partnership produced over 100 gardens, and Hestercombe's Formal Garden is considered the finest surviving example, still Grade I listed and almost complete. The display is open on the first floor of the House and is included with garden admission.
