Nightcrawler (2014)

A driven loner breaks into Los Angeles crime journalism, filming grisly scenes so ruthlessly that he stops merely witnessing events and starts shaping them, with a veteran news producer as his willing buyer.

Dan Gilroy's 2014 crime thriller follows Lou Bloom, an unemployed hustler who discovers he can sell footage of nighttime accidents and violence to hungry television stations. As his ambitions grow, the boundary between documenting tragedy and causing it dissolves entirely. Jake Gyllenhaal leads the cast alongside Rene Russo, Riz Ahmed and Bill Paxton in this tense drama about ambition and media ethics.
