Museum Lecture - Mike Tucker
About
An in-person museum lecture by Mike Tucker on Scotland's oldest golf courses — Leith Links, Bruntsfield Links and Musselburgh Old Course.
Mike Tucker gives an evening lecture at the R&A World Golf Museum on Golf's Original Fairways, the story of Leith Links, Bruntsfield Links and Musselburgh Old Course between 1744 and the end of the nineteenth century. The talk challenges the St Andrews-centred account of golf's origins, covering John Rattray and the Silver Club competition, the first written rules of 1744, early clubs and clubhouses, caddies, the gutta-percha ball, the Open Championship and the standardisation of the golf hole at Musselburgh. The lecture takes place in the museum galleries, with doors opening at 6.30pm for a 7pm start and refreshments on arrival; it lasts about an hour.
