Women’s History Month: Eleonora di Toledo and the Medici Court
About
A free lunchtime talk by Dr Elizabeth Currie on Eleonora di Toledo and her role in shaping the Florentine Medici court, in the museum and online.
Dr Elizabeth Currie examines the Wallace Collection's portrait of Eleonora di Toledo, exploring how the young bride of Duke Cosimo de' Medici navigated court etiquette while maintaining her personal style. Using surviving letters and documents, the talk covers Eleonora's taste and her commissioning of clothing for herself, relatives and her entourage over two decades. The talk runs 13.00–14.00 GMT with live captions by Stagetext; it can be attended free in the museum Theatre or watched live via Zoom with a booked ticket, and ticketholders get a two-week recording.
