This session of the Snape Local History Group features 'A Gentleman in Khaki', an illustrated talk by Chris Tapster about British soldiers serving in South Africa during the Boer War of 1899-1902. Using contemporary diaries and military records, it covers what soldiers wore, carried and ate, camp life, discipline and daily routines far from home. The talk also explains how the conflict introduced ideas such as khaki uniforms, trench warfare, guerrilla tactics and marksmanship. Everyone is welcome, with appeal to those interested in military, family or Victorian history.
