Exhibition: Painted Faces

Clare Williams presents theatrical portraits exploring the painted face, costume and character, based on four decades of work in theatre.

The exhibition brings together portraits painted on wooden panels, sometimes from models and sometimes from imagined characters. Williams describes the making process as akin to a theatre rehearsal, with characters emerging through repeated revision. The works are shown in the Visitors’ Book Café during the venue’s opening times, and paintings are available to buy.
