About
Jan Parsons traces Byron’s travels across Europe and the Mediterranean and their echoes in Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage. The hybrid talk is hosted at Shoe Lane Library, with an in-person and Zoom option.
The talk follows Byron’s Grand Tour from Falmouth to Lisbon and onward through Portugal, Spain, Albania and Greece, before turning to Switzerland and Italian cities. It compares his travels with the journey of Childe Harold, the poem’s traveller seeking meaning and fulfilment. Jan Parsons is a former chair of Guildford Travel Club and regularly presents to travel clubs and community groups.
