About
Translator Robert Chandler introduces his new English collection of Vasily Grossman’s wartime reporting, From the Front Line.
The Pushkin Club evening examines Grossman’s reporting from 1941 to 1945, from Stalingrad to Berlin and the exposure of Treblinka. Chandler’s new translation draws on surviving manuscripts and typescripts, offering an account beyond previously censored editions. The programme explores Grossman’s portraits of individuals and his role as a witness to history; Grossman is the subject, rather than a current participant.
