A guided visit to the archaeological remains of the Rose, exploring its Elizabethan theatre history, excavation and rediscovery on Bankside.
Guides bring the preserved remains of the 1587 Bankside playhouse to life with handled artefacts and extracts from historic accounts. The tour covers the theatre’s construction, the people and performances associated with it, its place in Elizabethan Bankside, its rediscovery and archaeological excavation, and the campaign to preserve the site. The visit lasts around 45 minutes, with time for questions.
