Poverty and Suicide in Scotland: Panel and Workshop
About
A panel discussion and blackout poetry workshop exploring poverty as suicide prevention, part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2026.
The event opens with a one-hour panel discussion featuring speakers from organisations including Samaritans Scotland, the Creating Hope Together delivery team and the Discovering Liveability research project, examining how poverty, welfare insecurity and the cost-of-living crisis affect suicide prevention. After a break, attendees take part in a one-hour blackout poetry workshop using Scotland's suicide prevention policy and the manifestos of the six MSP-represented parties, followed by a facilitated discussion. The event forms part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2026 and invites contributions from policy, research and lived experience perspectives.
