About

A free exhibition using archival documents, photographs, letters and films to explore Dylan Thomas's little-known 1951 journey through Iran.

The exhibition explores Dylan Thomas's 1951 journey through Iran, where he travelled to write a publicity film for the Anglo Iranian Oil Company. Rare archival documents, photographs, letters and films trace his journey and encounters, examining the commissioned film and his complex response to the assignment. The display sets this episode against the political upheaval of oil nationalisation and the historical connections between Wales and Iran forged through oil. Curated by Nariman Massoumi and Jo Furber, it is supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the University of Bristol and Swansea Council.
