Stained Metal

Stained Metal is an exhibition that explores the personal and global impact of the British Empire through the journey of a medal around the world.

The exhibition traces connections between people, places, and histories using a medal that traveled across the former British Empire. Inua Ellams posted the medal to four corners of the empire, inviting artists to respond. The display features new artistic commissions alongside objects from Inua’s private collection and the Manchester Museum collection. It encourages visitors to reflect on the complexities and legacies of empire.
