Centre Stage: Portraits from a Modern World
About
A free McManus exhibition exploring how modern portraits from Dundee's fine art collection reveal identity, personality and self-presentation.
This exhibition draws on Dundee's fine art collection to show how portraiture captures far more than a likeness, using pose, expression, clothing and setting to reveal personality and identity. It brings together portraits of actors, artists, musicians and writers, combining collection highlights with new works and loans, including pieces by Isaac Julien, Stewart Carmichael and Henry Young Alison, and a portrait of Dundee musician Howie by Steven Higginson. Designed to complement Curtain Call: Costumes from Stage and Screen, it explores the crafted image as another kind of performance.
