Out of Colditz
About
David Lascelles, 8th Earl of Harewood, is interviewed by Kate Fenton about his father's imprisonment in Colditz Castle during the Second World War.
BAFTA-winning producer David Lascelles, the 8th Earl of Harewood, tells the story behind Out of Colditz: his father George Lascelles, eldest grandson of King George V, was among high-profile VIP prisoners held at Colditz Castle during the Second World War. As Germany faced defeat, SS General Gottlob Berger defied direct orders, a decision that almost certainly saved the prisoners' lives. Eighty years on, David retraces his father's journey in conversation with festival patron Kate Fenton, whose late husband Ian Carmichael starred in the 1955 film The Colditz Story. The event lasts 90 minutes.
