About
Paintings and poems by Maggie O’Brien explore grief and the less idealised experiences of motherhood.
Made between 2017 and 2022, this body of work turns from external seascapes to an inner landscape of symbolic creatures, conflict, pain and grief. O’Brien’s paintings sit alongside poems, holding experiences such as love and anger, pride and pain, hope and despair within a wider conversation about motherhood.
