The exhibition showcases images that respond to sacred texts, poems, novels, children’s stories, music, theatre, or opera. It includes illustrations and cartoons where words and pictures combine to create humour. Artists such as Thomas Gainsborough, Paula Rego, Henry Moore, Ceri Richards, and Henri Matisse are featured.
