About

National Slate Museum quarrymen demonstrate the craft of splitting and dressing slate in the Stable Block.

The National Slate Museum quarrymen bring slate-splitting demonstrations to Penrhyn Castle while the museum is temporarily closed for redevelopment. Demonstrations take place in the Stable Block every day from 18 October to 1 November 2026, at 11:00, 12:00, 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00. The published source does not give the length or end time of each demonstration. Only assistance dogs may enter the slate-splitting demonstration room. The activity is free, but normal admission to the castle and grounds applies.
