Rudera – of the rubble

An exhibition combining film, sculpture, ceramics, drawing and lithographic prints to consider the material and ecological legacy of oil-shale extraction.

Simon Lee Dicker’s project follows the former oil-shale bings of West and Mid Lothian through a film made during 2025–26, alongside sculpture, ceramics, drawings and lithographic prints. It reflects on extraction, discarded materials and nature’s persistence in a changed landscape. The artist lists a private view on Thursday 8 October, 18:00–20:00, before the public exhibition dates; this private-view information is context, not a separate event.
